I know the 3 gram difference isn’t a lot but the growing trend is new packaging or labeling and less content and more money. These sublte acts of cheating the customer are annoying – as if we’re too stupid to notice, too powerless to do anything but buy it anyway.

The “Good Little Wife”

Contexts blog introduced me to a Walmart “stereotype” ad of moms who can do anything. The blogger writes:
…So apparently the wife is the one doing all the spending and, if she is a good little wife, she’s frugal and makes her husband’s hard-earned money go further. This would reproduce the husband as money-earner/wife as money-spender stereotype.
Though she [...]
Why Men Are Scum (apparently)

I never ask or otherwise insinuate I’d like diamonds as a gift from my husband. If it doesn’t come from his own desire and intention, I don’t want it. I’ll admit my husband has bought me a few not so good gifts over the years but in hindsight I get a chuckle even if at [...]
Russian Wife Syndrome

I suppose there’s a myriad of reasons for wanting a Russian wife. My husband has a thing for Russian/Slavic faces – “it’s a jaw thing”. (Hmmm. Don’t go there.) And I suppose he got lucky that he and I fell in love and that I just happened to be slavic.
I was a bit taken a [...]
Porno Censorship of Zack & Miri

Grrr. I just put off stuff I needed to do to write a little vent comment to a post The Legal Satyricon put up today about the attempted advertising censorship of a movie called Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I couldn’t help myself. I get so irritated by the stupidity of others and their misconception [...]
Playboy Bunny Snowboarding

This is where I tend to jump off the feminist fence and end up in the majority guy crowd. On one hand, I certainly don’t want guys “stepping on women” but in the case of Burton’s risque snowboards, I kind of found it a crack up that they would be offensive in the first place.
Okay, I really wouldn’t want my [...]
Forget Toplessness, What About the WORDS?

While Dodai from Jezabel.com focuses on the sad realities of all that toplessness going on in advertising this season, which respectfully have merit, ah… I’m not so sure I’m quite on the feminist side here with that. Yeah, it can be a bit much. Yeah, we all know that women are the “perfect statues” (consider it a compliment) who can [...]
Sexism “as it should be”

How does one turn down the opposite sex? Let’s take a look.
The first is from the female perspective.
The second is from the male perspective.
Hmm. Clearly you can guess which I prefer.
So sad Coca Cola has stooped to the sexism and stupidity it takes to sell beer to males. I wonder [...]
Dove: daughter beauty campaign

I’d like to thank Jen for this video.
Basically it says (in German), talk to your daughters before the beauty industry gets to her. Advice I commend.
I really have to praise Dove for their courage and honesty with their advertising. The world – particularly America – seems to have lost the concept of “natural beauty”. The [...]
