“In this case, the United States Supreme Court will decide how easy it is for school officials to strip search your child,” Adam Wolf, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union…”
I cannot wait to find out the results on this one.
Here’s a video.
UPDATE: June 09
And the results were positive. The search was illegal.

I find this story absolutley horrifying. The thought that someone from school could my force my child to strip down to its underwear, without me being present. Because of some vague finger pointing, from another child, is extremely hard to believe.
I have to say its seems to me that things in the US are completely out of hand and that human rights are being disregarded on a regular basis. That is as an outsider who lives in a liberal country, Germany but comes from a generally more conservative one, the UK.
It is quite possible that a girl could be carrying paracetamol or ibuprofen to school, to deal with period pain. How do they cope with other children who have medical conditions, which require medication to be taken during school hours?
I am also extremely interested to see how this case turns out.
Hi Karen,
Yes I’ve considered the menstral pain issue. The way the system works is any and all meds are to be given to the nurse who administrates it to the minor.
After 7 years abroad I feel like an outsider too and I don’t think I would have believed some of the craziness I’ve witnessed had I not seen it for myself. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is safety first. It’s extreme.
If one lives his own life w/o too much concern for what is happening it’s not as evident and the out of control aspect is true, moreso “under the table” of most people’s ability to protest. I think very few stories make it into the press. Worse, even if they do protest the voice doesn’t seem to mean anything because everything is twisted into the safety argument.
I want to be back in Germany sooo bad I can’t even express it. That attic is very missed!
I can’t believe there’s even a question of whether this is right or not. How I see it- they argue that my daughter doesn’t have rights… but, I do and she is an extension of me. It’s beyond belief that I’m giving my daughter lessons on how to assert her rights to protect her from agents of our govt.
it’s also mind-numbingly ironic that people are wanting to move to Germany to get away from the oppressiveness of America.
Marty,
Yep, I’m wondering where the question of right and wrong is so shady on this one too, *especially* when a parent is not present. Astonishing but worse, I’m somewhat fearful what the results will be. Can we trust the Supreme Court? Usually it delivers and I hope this case is one of those moments where I can celebrate rather than continue to plan my escape back to Germany.
